Tonsillitis is the name by which inflammation of the tonsils is known, due to the action of a frequent virus (although it can also depend on infections of a bacterial nature). Tonsillitis
The tonsils are lymphatic ganglia that are found in the back of the mouth and in the upper part of the throat. They are important because they filter the germs that enter the mouth, an action with which it helps the body to prevent many diseases.

Depending on the cause, the treatment will change. Only in extreme cases, that is when the infection does not respond to treatment or occurs frequently, it is usual to proceed with surgical treatment (removal of the tonsils).
Sore throat, a characteristic symptom
Sore throat caused by inflamed tonsils is very annoying. It can cause difficulty swallowing, hoarse voice, and even neck stiffness. It can also be accompanied by earache, when the inflammation extends to the ear. It is therefore necessary to start medical treatment as soon as the diagnosis is received. In addition to the treatment decided by the doctor, you can get relief at home through a very simple practice: gargle.
Remedies for inflamed tonsils
Gargling is a popular home remedy that, while it does not cure a sore throat, does provide relief. The following preparations and tips can help treat this condition and alleviate, at least in part, its symptoms.
Not all organisms, however, will respond in the same way and in no case can these suggestions replace the necessary medical evaluation.
1. Lemon gargling
Lemon juice diluted in hot water is considered a remedy capable of giving relief in case of inflamed tonsils or a simple sore throat. To prepare it, just squeeze the lemon juice and mix it with water. Once ready, you can gargle as many times as you like.
* Note: You can add a tablespoon of salt to this mixture.
* Note 2: lemon juice provides vitamin C to the body, but this does not mean that it is a fruit capable of preventing or treating flu, colds and infections.
2. Gargle of chamomile and salt
Chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties that are very useful for giving relief. Prepare a liter of infusion, let it rest for a few minutes to cool, add plenty of salt, mix and drink half a cup. Gargle several times a day for several consecutive days.
* Note: You could also drink chamomile tea to soothe discomfort and hydrate, but without salt.
3. Gargle of mouthwash
In the popular field, gargling with mouthwash is also recommended, as in addition to calming discomfort, it helps eliminate bad breath and offers a certain freshness to the mouth. It is not necessary to mix the mouthwash with another substance and these gargling can be done at any time, after a meal, in the middle of the morning, etc.

Although gargling offers some relief, you have to remember that it alone is not enough to cure any disease. You should therefore include them as part of your doctor’s prescribed treatment, never as a substitute for it.
