How To Transform A Glass Bottle Into An Original Cutting Board
Glass is a material widely used in the making of bottles, lenses, windows and many other elements of daily use. It has been used for centuries, as, in addition to being practical, it has the great advantage of being 100% recyclable.
Unlike other reusable materials, glass can be reused in its entirety because it does not suffer alterations during this process. This means that for every kilo recycled, we get the same amount of material in perfect condition.
In an age where reducing pollution is vital, all ideas of recycling and re-use are welcome. For this reason, we want to share with you some simple steps to transform old wine bottles into decorative cutting boards for delicious appetizers.
How to make a snack board using a glass bottle?
The technique to make this glass cutting board is very easy to put into practice, even if it requires some patience and time.
The result is quite interesting, as we can even get other decoration elements to add to our windows or meetings.
Materials
- Empty glass bottle
- Soap or natural detergent
- Electric oven
- Steel scourer
- Wire or hook
- Baking paper
Step 1
The first thing to do is to clean the bottle completely, removing the labels so that it has only one color (some, however, prefer to keep them).
If you can take them off with your hand, perfect. However, almost always small pieces remain attached that we can only remove by moistening the element in a container with warm water and natural detergent.
This process softens the glue and helps remove the label more easily with the help of a steel wool.
Warning! Try not to scrape too hard, so as not to scratch or damage the bottle.
Step 2
Rinse the bottle inside and out with plenty of cold water and make sure no bad odors remain. Let it dry completely.
Step 3
Optionally, you can use wire or a small hook so you can hang the future cutting board. It is especially recommended if you want to use it to decorate the kitchen wall.
If you opt for the wire, make it curved and insert it into the end of the bottle in such a way as to remain stationary.
Step 4
At this point you will have to be very careful, because it is the moment in which you give the flat shape to the glass bottle.
Place the fiber paper or baking paper on the oven rack and place the bottle in a horizontal position.
Afterwards, turn on the oven to minimum temperature and bake the element for an hour. After this time, increase to medium temperature and leave for another 20 minutes.
Next, bring the oven to 650 ° C and 800 ° C for another half hour and turn off. Avoid opening the oven, as the bottle will have to remain in it for another 24 hours.
Step 5
After the indicated time has elapsed, the bottle will now be cold and you can remove it and use it as a cutting board.
Step 6
To conclude, you just have to give free rein to your imagination to give it a decorative and special touch.
You can use rubber bands, laces or paint to customize the cutting board or decorate it specifically.
If you want to make it a little more elegant, you can put a cork and a fiber ribbon.
With minimalist designs, you’ll get a great snack board for birthdays or any family gathering.
Of course, the only thing left to do is put the snacks you want to bring to the table on the cutting board: biscuits, bruschetta, muffins… whatever you like!
Try it!
As you can see, with this original idea, it is very easy to recycle glass bottles and we can use them to create interesting items for our home.
This and other similar items will keep you busy as you test your creativity and skill.
The most important thing is that you will respect the environment and, however insignificant it may seem, you will help reduce the negative impact that, year after year, this material generates on nature.
