How to calm the sting of sunburn

Although natural remedies take longer to work on superficial burns, they are a safe and effective way to calm the burn and avoid residual scarring. They are very useful in cases of sunburn and first degree burns caused by domestic accidents.

1. Honey

The benefits of honey for our health are well known. It improves digestion and regulates blood sugar levels.

Did you know that it can also be used as a disinfectant ointment on sunburn? In fact, this delicious food has been shown to  contain moisturizing substances that help our skin retain its natural oils. 

But that’s not all: it acts as an antioxidant by stimulating cell regeneration and preventing sunburn from leaving its mark with a scar. 

To take advantage of these properties, it is sufficient to pour a little honey on a gauze that will then be applied to the affected area. Leave it to act for at least three hours. After this time, remove the gauze and apply new honey. Repeat the process until healed.

2. Onion juice

Some vegetables, such as onions, have recognized antibiotic and healing effects.

Its juice, in particular, contains sulfur compounds and antioxidants capable of calming burning and redness.

It also reduces the formation of the painful blisters that appear almost immediately when we burn, providing us with natural protection from bacteria.

Cut an onion in half and blend it. Apply the juice obtained on the burn with the help of a cotton swab.

3. Lavender oil

Essential oils have always been used to cure and treat various ailments. In this case, lavender offers us its analgesic and antibacterial properties to protect the skin.

It is one of the natural remedies that most help to calm the burning in case of burns, to repair the skin tissues and to reduce the appearance of the scar.

Apply lavender oil with your fingers or a cotton ball. Repeat the application at least twice a day, until improvement.

4. Tomato

We know that the tomato is nutritious and tasty. But beyond that, it’s interesting to know that its pulp has a cooling effect on sunburn. 

It is rich in antioxidants and regenerates the skin, preventing the formation of scars or blemishes. Above all, it calms pain and prevents blisters from appearing.

Simply cut a slice of tomato and apply it to the reddened skin. Let it act for about 20 minutes. At the end, rinse with plenty of water.

5. Black tea

Black tea is an excellent natural remedy: it absorbs the heat of sunburn thanks to its high content of tannic acid. Therefore, it reduces burning and pain.

In this case, soak two or three black tea bags in cold water. Dab the burn and let it act for at least a quarter of an hour. If you want, you can secure the sachets with gauze.
