1. Ice cubes

It is a more than effective option and, at the same time, accessible. Just put some ice cubes in a plastic bag and then cover with a light fabric.

What to do

  • Apply to the area that hurts for 20 minutes, while lying on your back on the sofa or bed.
  • You can repeat about every hour or several times a day. The cold will cause the blood vessels to narrow and relieve the headache.

2. Ginger tea

This root offers numerous benefits for our health, due to the fact that it raises the temperature, strengthens the immune system and improves blood circulation. And it’s also anti-inflammatory! To take advantage of its properties, we can prepare a tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 slice of ginger root or 1 tablespoon of grated root (15 g)
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)
  • Honey (to taste) (optional)

Preparation

  • Add the root to a cup of boiling water.
  • Leave to rest for 10 minutes and sweeten with a teaspoon of honey (optional).
  • Drink as hot as possible while lying on the bed.

3. Apple cider vinegar

This remedy helps prevent and calm migraines. In the latter case, soak a cloth in the liquid and apply it to the painful area of ​​the head. To prevent pain, however, prepare the following remedy.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 1 glass of water (200 ml)

Preparation

  • Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of fresh water and mix well.
  • Drink two or three times a week before bed.
  • This detoxifies the body and reduces blood pressure. Both factors can interfere with migraines.

4. Chamomile tea

With its calming and anti-inflammatory properties, chamomile is a highly recommended herb for severe headaches. It also serves as a cure for insomnia, nervousness and stress. Although you can buy it in sachets, we recommend that you prepare it yourself by buying the flowers at a herbalist’s shop.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of chamomile (45 g)
  • 2 cups of water (500 ml)
  • Honey (to taste)
  • 1/2 lemon juice (optional)

Preparation

  • Heat the water and, when it boils, add the chamomile.
  • Let it rest, filter, sweeten with honey and add some lemon juice before consuming.

5. Lavender essential oil

This plant is chosen in many treatments due to its medicinal properties. You can put some sprigs of lavender in your pillow, because its aroma helps you sleep better. To prevent and treat migraines, we should use essential oil.

What to do

  • Pour a drop on your fingers and rub lightly and with circular movements on the sore spot.
  • You can also sprinkle some on the towel you use to dry after a bath, on handkerchiefs or on certain clothing.

Lavender oil is well known for its sedative properties, but  it is not the only one we can use if we have severe headaches. Other options are basil, chamomile, eucalyptus, thyme and sandalwood. And, of course, the olive one!

6. Potato

This tuber is rich in water, which is why it hydrates. But the potato, as well as cucumber and watermelon, can be of great help even if we suffer from migraines.

What to do

  • Just  cut several slices and put them on your forehead or temples. Block them with a handkerchief and rest.
  • Change them when you notice them getting hot or dry.
