The wonderful properties of pineapple
It is not just a delicious and refreshing fruit, perfect for hot summer days. Pineapple also has a lot of properties that are worth remembering:
- Firstly, it is ideal for burning fat and is therefore suitable for those with obesity, overweight and cellulite problems.
- Thanks to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, pineapple is recommended for patients with arthritis or gout.
- Pineapple has a diuretic effect linked to its potassium content: it serves to eliminate the accumulation of liquids and at the same time to purify and detoxify the body.
- Strengthens the immune system.
- Promotes the absorption of iron (the consumption of this fruit is therefore recommended for anemic people).
- It has an anticoagulant effect, avoids the formation of blood clots and the appearance of circulatory problems.
- Pineapple regulates blood pressure (especially in case of hypertension), fights colds and reduces the symptoms of rheumatism.
Pineapple against constipation
Millions of people have difficulty going to the bathroom because of their diet or because they are not exercising.
Infrequent evacuations or difficulties in expelling waste are remedied if you opt for a varied diet, a more active lifestyle and if you drink at least 2 liters of water a day.
Furthermore, it is possible to combat constipation by taking advantage of the wonderful properties of pineapple.
Pineapple bromelain improves digestion in general, promoting normal bowel functioning. In addition, pineapple provides dietary fiber which regulates body evacuations.
In case of constipation, it is advisable to consume a cup of chopped pineapple every day.
It would be good to eat fruit several times a week, in this way it is easier to facilitate the evacuation.
You can also drink pineapple juice, as long as it is natural (not the industrial juice found on the market, because it contains added preservatives and sugars).
A cup of pineapple juice (250 ml) provides 0.5 grams of fiber. For this reason, in case of acute constipation, it is advisable to drink about 8 glasses (one and a half liters) in the space of a day.
Natural pineapple enzymes play an important role in the proper functioning of the colon.
If constipation is mild (for example when you go on vacation or change your diet), it is recommended to drink one cup of pineapple juice a day on an empty stomach and then drink a glass of water (200 ml).
In the case of children, it is recommended to dilute half a cup of pineapple juice with half of water. The ideal is to use an extractor to always have natural juice ready to consume.
Although pineapple is nutritious and has many benefits, it has some drawbacks:
- For example, it can cause dehydration (for this reason the consumption of this fruit should always be accompanied by a glass of water).
- People with gastroesophageal reflux should avoid pineapple juice to avoid worsening symptoms.
Other fruits to combat constipation
In order not to always eat pineapple, perhaps because you don’t like it or you don’t always find it at the greengrocer’s, there are other effective alternatives for constipation.
You can include these fruits in your diet as a dessert or for breakfast. However, in case of constipation, it is better to consume them on an empty stomach:
1. Berries
They are a great source of fiber: a cup of strawberries (150 g) provides 2.9 grams and a cup of blueberries, 3.6 grams.
Blackberries and raspberries are the richest fruits in fiber, 8 grams per cup.
For a good intestinal function, it is recommended to consume 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day.
Starting the day with a good ration of berries is enough to get this amount.
Berries are low in calories, have moisturizing properties and protect the body from free radicals.
2. Plums
In case of constipation, a famous grandmother’s remedy is to eat prunes, both fresh and dried.
Plums improve bowel movement and provide a large amount of fiber. You can eat them after lunch or after dinner as a dessert, but juice is also a valid alternative.
3. Apples
Apples are among the healthiest fruits that exist, in fact they contain a good dose of nutrients.
Apples improve the digestive system in general and relieve constipation thanks to the pectin (a type of fiber) they contain.
They increase stool volume, fight inflammation and satisfy appetite.
4. Kiwi
Kiwis are another fiber-rich fruit variety. They contain an enzyme called actinidin, which facilitates bowel movement and prevents gas formation.
It is recommended to eat a fresh kiwi fruit in the morning on an empty stomach. You can also make a smoothie with other fruits in case you don’t particularly like the slightly acidic taste of kiwifruit.
5. Pears
Pears are also of great help in case of constipation. The good news is that you can find them all year round.
In addition to helping you to alleviate this problem thanks to their supply of pectin, pears strengthen the immune system and regulate blood pressure.
