Values are The Basis For A Successful Build
“We are in full crisis of values!” it is an expression we often hear and this is because for several generations what was once a source of family pride has fallen into oblivion. The family is the suitable context for the transmission of fundamental values, which allow the construction of a more harmonious society.
We have a duty to teach our children, from an early age, family and social values, as well as explain them how to apply them to daily life. These values will define the attitude they will take in adult life and will define their personality.
Values, therefore, represent a vital commitment. A commitment that will be reflected in behaviors and behaviors that will be put into practice on the basis of what we want to achieve for ourselves and for others.
Values guide us in all our actions, allow us to overcome difficulties and go forward. As Nietzsche said: “Whoever has a why to live can bear any how”.
What are the values?
Some define them as fundamental beliefs on which an individual’s personality is built; beliefs that guide decision making and actions to be taken. Others identify them as qualities that guide the moment of choice, which lead to adopt certain behaviors rather than others and to appreciate certain aspects of life.
Values make us behave in certain ways when faced with situations that challenge morals and good morals. When we act driven by the principles and values that have been transmitted to us at home, we experience a particular feeling of fullness and satisfaction.
We could say that values affect the way we behave in the face of circumstances that life puts before us. Every conduct we take is an example for our children. For this reason, as parents, we must be their primary and most important model of values. Simply, by example, one educates.
Hence the importance of paying maximum attention to the way we react to every circumstance. This aspect is essential to transmit principles and values to our children. Furthermore, it is our responsibility to pass them on since they are little although we believe they do not understand us. Most of the time, in fact, they understand perfectly.
What values should we pass on to our children?
Each family is a particular world that defines its own rules and norms of behavior. Values are usually passed on from generation to generation. That is, you will inculcate in your children the values your parents have taught you and you will also have your own preferences in this regard.
It is also important to underline that, at a given moment, a person’s values can be conditioned by context, culture, friendships, experiences, etc. Below we list some of the most important values to be passed on to children for their growth and so that they are able to achieve their goals with the success they deserve.
Gratitude among the core values
Gratitude is a value associated with gratitude for the good that has been received. It is about feeling and admiring those who have delighted us with their gifts or with their help. Teaching our children to be grateful will inspire them to sow good.
Gratitude can be expressed in a variety of ways. A smile, a hug, a simple “thank you” or a handshake express and represent gratitude.
Respect
This value represents the basis on which to build human relationships. Respect allows us to recognize the virtues and autonomy of people.
When one has respect, one willingly accepts the right of others to be and act differently. Respect makes coexistence harmonious.
Honesty
Another of the fundamental virtues to be transmitted in the home is honesty. It is a fundamental value, which helps us to live and coexist in and with the truth. Being honest builds trust from others.
Other values derive from honesty, such as integrity, justice and truth. Try to put honesty first in your actions to educate consistency.
The sense of responsibility among the fundamental values
Passing on the value of responsibility to our children is a task that requires dedication. And this is because responsibility is intimately connected to commitment.
When we fulfill our family, work and citizen duties, we stimulate the development of this important value in our children. Responsibility is also associated with assuming the consequences of one’s actions, for example.
The generosity
Being generous is one of the most beautiful virtues of a human being. Generosity is associated with empathy, being attentive to the needs of others and being willing to offer their help when they want it. Generous people derive well-being from sharing.
IS It is normal for children, especially the youngest ones, to think that it is all theirs. This shows us that they are selfish, it is a natural reaction; however, it is precisely at that point that we have to intervene to correct them, so that they learn to be generous.
Humility
As parents, we must be humble of heart so that our children will imitate us and not adopt an attitude of superiority over others . Teaching them to have a humble attitude will help them get to know each other better, as they will not be able to refrain from accepting their mistakes and failures.
Humility makes it easier to overcome weaknesses, as well as become aware of your strengths. Those who work with humility do not boast of their actions. This value was described in a simple way by Mother Teresa of Calcutta with the following sentence: “Humility consists in keeping silent about one’s virtues in order to allow others to discover them”.
This list would be incomplete if we did not mention values such as peace, love, justice, freedom, tolerance, solidarity, friendship and goodness; values as universal as they are fundamental for human coexistence.
Each individual tends to prioritize some values over others based on several factors. However, it is important to direct the education of children towards the greatest number of fundamental values. Only in this way will we contribute to forming a successful generation with the necessary ethics to make a meaningful contribution to society.
